Listening: Making Sense of the Sonic Soup Around You

A four-year project funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, Listening explores the question: Why listen? By taking a new “listening-centered” approach to exhibiting sound and hearing phenomena, the project will integrate exhibit development, designed environments, artworks, visitor studies, and public programming to create compelling and educational visitor experiences.

In 2006, the Listening team is hosting four sound artists for residencies: Bruce Odland, Michelle Nagai, Nigel Helyer, and Ali Momeni. The resulting works will become part of the permanent collection that explores the art of profound listening.
