Rock Paper Scissors
This After Dark, we celebrated the allure of real rocks, paper, and scissors, and explored some surprising theories surrounding the game. Using the official rules of the World RPS Society, we also hosted our own Rock Paper Scissors tournament.
Ecologist Barry Sinervo explained the evolutionary game of Rock Paper Scissors played by the common side-blotched lizard. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory scientist Sam Webb revealed how intense x-rays are used to determine pigmentation patterns in dinosaur skin and feathers. The Exploratorium's Tinkering Studio invited visitors to make a collaborative ink drawing as part of the Sumi Ink Club, and stylists from Public Barber Salon demonstrated their scissor techniques on willing volunteers.
