In addition, Alex Warren, artist and founder of Sinopia Pigments and Materials, shared secrets to making paints from scratch.
Exploratorium astronomer Dr. Isabel Hawkins and Maya Elder Maria Avila Vera and family discussed the significance of scarlet in Maya cosmology. Exploratorium physicist Paul Doherty explained red sunsets and Martian skies, and the classic French film The Red Balloon (1956, 34 min.), by Albert Lamorisse, screened in the McBean Theater.
This After Dark event was presented as part of ColorFest, a two-month extravaganza featuring over 30 color-related exhibits, film programs, adult seminars, performances, and hands-on activities.
