The Exploratorium TV crew caught up with Exploratorium Living Systems director, Dr. Kristina Yu, at After Dark: Sexplorations. Kristina confirmed it for us—sex is all around us, all the time.

Sexplorations

At this event, recommended for adults only, we delved into the whys and wherefores of sex and investigated the ways nature is both conservative and creative in its pursuit of procreation. Visitors explored insect peep shows, collected their own DNA, enjoyed the Condom Couture Fashion Show that presented dresses fabricated from condoms, and checked out a variety of sperm from across the plant and animal kingdoms. Visitors could also view the films Love Life of the Octopus and Sexual Encounters of the Floral Kind. Mary Roach, author of the bestselling Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, took us on a droll journey through understandings and misunderstandings about our sexual parts, their relationship to our minds, and scientific techniques for studying them.
