PAST EVENT

Time

As the summer solstice approached, After Dark considered the topic of time. Among the special exhibits, artworks, and presentations were a mind-bending tour of Einstein’s theory of relativity with Exploratorium Senior Scientist Thomas Humphrey, activities and presentations featuring honeybees, jump-shot photography, and a musical performance by Gamelan Sari Raras. Visitors could also look at vintage timepieces with antique clock–repair expert Dorian Clair, learn about the Long Now Foundation’s 10,000-year clock project, and hear staff physicist Ron Hipschman reveal the science of carbon dating and the astronomy behind the Gregorian calendar. Also included in this timely evening event were time-related artworks and  exhibits, and films by Al Jarnow and others.
