Kenneth
R. Miller, Ph.D.
Brown University biology professor Kenneth Miller is an expert in cell
membrane structure and function, and an active proponent of the teaching
of evolution as the organizing principle of biology.
A prolific writer, Dr. Miller is the author of more than 50 scientific
papers and reviews in leading journals, including CELL, Nature,
and Scientific American. He also co-authored four high-school
and college biology textbooks, which are used by millions of students
nationwide. He has received numerous honors, including five teaching awards
and a Presidential Citation from the American Institute of Biological
Sciences for Distinguished Contributions to Biology Sciences. In February
of this year, he was named a Fellow of the American Association for the
Advancement of Science.
Dr. Miller is the author of Finding Darwin’s God: A Scientist’s
Search for Common Ground between God and Evolution. He served as
a key witness for the plaintiffs in the Kitzmiller v. Dover case,
which successfully defended the teaching of evolution in public schools.
Dr. Miller did his undergraduate work at Brown University, and earned
a Ph.D. in 1974 at the University of Colorado. He spent six years as Assistant
Professor at Harvard University before returning to Brown University in
1980. |
