The 39 institutions that were removed from the survey had one or more of the following characteristics: They described themselves as children's museums or "other" museums with no "type of collections, exhibits, or programs that focus on any aspect of science, broadly defined"; they did not have a physical, permanent location; they were in development and not yet open.
