Exploratorium - a museum of science, art, and human
perception in San Francisco - is internationally known for
its leadership in the design of exhibit-based learning environments,
professional development programs for teachers, and innovative
uses of new technologies to support inquiry in the classroom
and at home. Programs offered at both national and local levels
are dedicated to supporting new teachers, designing effective
professional development programs, helping classroom teachers
develop their content knowledge, and creating innovative approaches
to teaching science.

for research and teaching excellence. UCSC has a strong tradition
of interdepartmental collaborations among the natural and
social sciences, and expertise in research and teaching in
areas of cultural diversity. UCSC research on the science
of learning is renowned for socio-cultural approaches to learning
and communication in diverse community and institutional settings,
and has well established links with schools after-school programs,
and family settings, and with a number of informal science
institutions in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas.
UCSC is particularly interested in including scholars focused
on issues of cultural diversity.

College London (KCL) is an international leader
in science education. It is known for producing exceptional
teachers and scholars in the field of science education, including
informal science education and museum-based research. KCL
is closely connected to a number of London-based informal
science institutions, and brings particular expertise in the
areas of assessment, professional development, language and
literacy, and how new technologies impact public spaces.
