DISCUSSION
Think about the following questions:
- Return to our roots
Vygotsky---everyday and scientific
Let us think together about how we can gain a better
understanding of the everyday knowledge that all people
bring into the learning setting. This goes beyond
cultural relativism. Then think about the canonical
science that is presented in school, or museums please
focus first on observational sciences like astronomy,
biology, geosciences.
- Discourse analysis
Let's think in terms of activity, not single utterances
or
questions--what does discourse analysis get us--across
learning settings?

(1996) [*This book describes the
results of a study examining children's understandings,
formulated as a result of in school and out of school
experiences, of the nature of science (particularly
the nature of scientific knowledge and the connections
between science and society) by students in grades 4
to 11 (ages 9-16). I think it provides a great resource
in terms of both content knowledge and research methods.] |
