All
of us have personal ways of using a language, an accent
put on a word, a way of phrasing a sentence, new uses
for old words, or even making up new words. When a group
of people all share a set of such traits, together they
speak a dialect. Push the sampler button to hear a selection
of English dialects. Push any of the nine buttons to
hear one dialect at a time, whenever you like. Listen
for the different vowel sounds people from all over
the world use. For instance, the dialects of North Carolina
may very greatly from the dialects of Scotland or Australia.
