Various
chemical salts, including ordinary table salt, are mixed
into solutions, poured into plastic cups and champagne
glasses, and arranged on a glass-enclosed table in a
disorderly fashion- not unlike the aftermath of a cocktail
party. A thin piece of string is draped over the edge
of each container. The solutions are refreshed daily.
As the liquid wicks along the strings onto the white
tablecloth, it begins to evaporate, forming a crystalline
landscape of vivid color that changes slowly over time.
Stalactites of table salt hang from above, and rivers
of color gradually creep across the miniature landscape
forming on the tables surface. Where two kinds of salt
meet, new color or patterns of crystal growth may emerge.
