In
Diffraction, a small bright light is mounted behind a hole
in a darkened wall. When looking at the light, it seems to
twinkle. This effect is caused by the bending of light in
the eye and its lens. This same diffraction effect is observable
in other objects by using the various props at the exhibit.
A diffraction grating bends the light enough to produce rainbow
effects. There are also some common objects, like a piece
of screen, which afford a view of the diffraction patterns
caused when light bends around edges.
