In Conversation Piece, two people sit on opposite sides of a six-foot diameter balloon filled with carbon dioxide gas. When they speak, they can hear each other very clearly. The sound is focused by the denser carbon dioxide gas in the same way that light is focused by glass lenses. It is also possible to sit closer to the sound lens and hear sounds focused from further away. Moving away from the focal point, the sound decreases dramatically.
