Visitors play
two tunes simultaneously and try to "name those tunes." The computer simulation
allows a visitor to choose new tunes, alter the timber and tempo, or transpose
the pitch of either tune to help identify the melodies. The ears and brain have a
remarkable ability to lock onto certain parts of what you are hearing and exclude
the rest. This ability allows you to follow a single conversation in a noisy room,
or to track individual parts of a musical composition. With Name Those Tunes,
visitors can experiment with some mechanisms that help to separate and identify
one tune from another.
