Bouncing Ball

In Bouncing Ball, the behavior of a steel ball bouncing on a hardened steel plate demonstrates the exponential decay of the motion and the corresponding increase of the frequency of the bounces. Visitors use a magnet to lift the ball above the plate where it is automatically dropped. The sounds of the bouncing are amplified and played through speakers. When the plate is clean, the frequency of the bounce reaches several hundred hertz.
