This exhibit is an example of a feedback system. You use the position of the ball as feedback to tell you how to tilt the box. The importance of this feedback becomes clear when you try the box on the right side. A delay has been built into the knob on the right side, slowing your ability to respond and make it much harder to keep the ball in the middle.
