Pentaphone

The Pentaphone is a study in timbre. It has five sides, each with a different material which produces a different sound. The five materials used are magnesium, marble, aluminum, paduk (a South American hardwood) and bamboo. All of the materials except bamboo are resonated by plexiglass quarter-wave tubes. Care is taken to produce a homogeneous dynamic range which encourages improvisation by the visitor.
