A
telescope uses two lenses: one lens to bring an image
up close and another lens to magnify it. We've taken
this telescope apart so you can see how the two lenses
work together. First a big lens at the far end of the
telescope bends light from a distant image to make a
nearby image of the same thing. Then the second lens
in the eyepiece magnifies the image made by the first
lens. Here we've replaced the telescope eyepiece with
a magnifying glass that you can move around. The magnifying
glass works just like the eyepiece would, it makes the
image on the screen look bigger.
