Thermal Impressions

Visitors play with sheets of temperature sensitive liquid crystal film, a variety of objects, and a table with hot and cold surfaces to make thermal impressions. Colorful patterns on the film reveal areas of different temperature. Changes in the color and shapes reveal the transfer of heat from warmer object to cooler ones. The response of the film to the different shapes and materials invites questions about the nature of heat and temperature.
