Images of the Ice Balloon Activity in action

Looking closely at the ice balloon.

By placing a flashlight onto the ice balloon...

this group discovered that the metal flashlight easily melted a hole in the ice.

What happens when you put it in water?

It floats!

Only a bit stays above the surface

Looking at the difference between the part of the ice that floated and the part that was submerged.

Trying to make a hole in the ice balloon.

Trying to melt a hole in the ice balloon with salt.

Seeing what happens when food coloring is put into the salt crater.

Trying to get food coloring inside the ice balloon.

Trying to find out if the "spines" in the ice balloon are hollow.
