PINHOLE INVESTIGATIONS
Sources of Materials
in Pinhole Kit
©1998 Exploratorium
These
are the materials that are included in the pinhole kit. They are
listed below along with places where you can get replacements.
Cardboard
boxes: Square boxes of graduated sizes: 8-1/2, 9, 10, 10-1/2,
11 and 12 inches square, available at packaging stores or moving
companies.
Clamp Light
Cords: We used Eagle brand #484, but any hardware store clamp
light will work. Just remove the clamp and reflector. A hardware
store can order these in bulk from Eagle if they are not in stock.
Light bulbs: We
chose these bulbs because they have different filaments and are
fairly bright (60 watts or more). We have included catalog numbers
for these bulbs so a hardware store can get replacements for you.
You could also buy bulbs yourself off the shelf --- just look for
filaments of interesting shapes.

Pegboard: from
a hardware store, or a lumber store. Ask them to cut it for you
if you don't have a table saw.
Filament Tape: 3M
Tartan #8934 (2") is recommended for protecting the windows.
Die-Cut Cards: These
are cards for doing the Array of Holes and the Spots and Streaks
activities listed in the ImageWalk magazine. They are not available,
but you can make your own (see ImageWalk magazine, pp. 2-11).
Bob Miller's
Image Walk (Exploratorium Quarterly Magazine): Reprints of
the ImageWalk magazine are not available. However, the ImageWalk
magazine can be reproduced for educational purposes.
