Graduate Listserv and Archives

A listserv is an electronic way to meet and work together to implement inquiry-based and hands-on science learning in the classroom.

The graduate listserv conversation is recorded here. The listserv messages are filed by date, subject, and name.

There are currently 6 listservs that are archived on the IFI website for you to look at. Except for ifi-list, each listserv and its corresponding archive was associated with an IFI workshop or seminar. As of February 1, 1999, ifi-list is the ONLY IFI active listserv. However, there are over 600 archived messages linked below as well as the current ifi-list archives.

IFI-LIST ARCHIVE is the unified archive associated with all IFI seminars and workshops from February 1, 1999 on.

ADVANCED1 ARCHIVE is the listserv archive associated with the Advanced Inquiry Workshop. This listserv was merged into the Profdev Listserv on May 5, 1998 and is no longer active. The archive is still accessible however.

ASSESSMENT ARCHIVE is the listserv archive associated with the Assessment For Learning In Elementary School Science Workshops. This listserv was merged into ifi-list on February 1, 1999 and is no longer active. The archive is still accessible however.

INTRO1 ARCHIVE is the listserv archive associated with the Introduction to Inquiry Workshop and with the Inquiry Workshops. This listserv was merged into ifi-list on February 1, 1999 and is no longer active. The archive is still accessible however.

PROFDEV ARCHIVE is the listserv archive associated with the Professional Development Design Seminars. Beginning May 5, 1998, the Advanced1 listsrv was merged with the Profdev listserv. This listserv was then merged into ifi-list on February 1, 1999 and is no longer active. The archive is still accessible however.

SEMINAR1 ARCHIVE is the listserv archive associated with the Inquiry Leadership Seminars. This listserv was merged into ifi-list on February 1, 1999 and is no longer active. The archive is still accessible however.

The IFI Listserv is an Internet list that provides an ongoing exchange of ideas and questions for Graduates of the Exploratorium Institute for Inquiry. Listservs are a way to practice new approaches with support from each other and from museum faculty and staff. You could, for example, ask a science question, put out a call for exciting activities or let colleagues know about an interesting happening.

A listserv is an easy way for individuals to network with others on a focused topic or subject area. Subscribers to a listserv can send messages to all the members of a listserv, but only have to send the message to one email address, that of the listserv. The message will go to each subscriber's email inbox. The subscriber can then respond to the listserv, to the individual who sent the message, or delete the message without replying or even reading it.

There are two ways to join ifi-list, Regular or Digest. With a Regular subscription, you receive every message that is sent to the listserv, message by message, as each is sent to the listserv. With a Digest Subscription, your address will be added to the list of subscribers who receive a daily digest of all messages.

To subscribe to ifi-list in the regular mode:

Send an email message to the following email address:

requests@exploratorium.edu

In either the subject or the body (main part) of the message, type:

subscribe ifi-list

This should sign you up for the listserv and you should automatically receive an email welcome message. If you do not receive such a message within 24 hours, please contact: Deb Hunt, dhunt@exploratorium.edu.

To subscribe to ifi-list in the Digest mode:

Send an email message to the following email address:

requests@exploratorium.edu

In either the subject or the body (main part) of the message, type:

subscribe digest ifi-list

If you are already a regular subscriber to ifi-list, subscribing in the digest mode will automatically unsubscribe you from the regular mode and subscribe you to the digest mode

YOU MUST BE SUBSCRIBED TO THE LIST IN ORDER TO SEND MESSAGES TO IT.

Sending messages to the subscribers of ifi-list:

To send a message to all the subscribers on the list, email your message to:

ifi-list@exploratorium.edu

Unsubscribing

You leave a listserv by unsubscribing to it. The process is the same whether you have subscribed in the regular or digest mode. To unsubscribe:

Send an email message to:

requests@exploratorium.edu

In either the subject or the body (main part) of the message, type:

unsubscribe ifi-list

This should remove you from the listserv and you should automatically receive an email message confirming that you are no longer a member. If you do not receive such a message within 24 hours, please contact the list moderator dhunt@exploratorium.edu
