SUMMARY:
The Public Programs Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of temporal, evening public programs targeted at adult audiences and assists with the implementation of other public programs and special projects and events. This position will be instrumental in the development of successful, ongoing activities designed to attract and retain an adult audience. The desired candidate is an individual with a strong interest in science, and who has prior experience working
with adults or family groups in an informal education, park or museum setting. This individual will be comfortable communicating program goals to other staff and to communication departments within the museum. This position will be responsible for communicating with the Public Information, Marketing and membership department about adult oriented activities. The position requires a highly diplomatic individual with strong organizational, collaborative and interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implement public programs: research, recruit and book presenters, schedule within museum systems and calendars, Public Information and content staff.
- Prepare program descriptions for public information, Development and Marketing
- Determine and schedule physical requirements for evening programs including space, seating needs audio visual and technical needs, and safety requirements and coordinate with technical staff.
- Serve as program liaison to other frontline departments, program areas, and communication and administrative departments
- Work closely with Public Programs Manager on audience and community development, including establishing community partnerships and communication strategies, track audience development, attendance and feedback
- Work closely with Public Programs Manager to develop an annual program schedule that takes into account audience, budget limitations, feasibility of scale and content balance
- This position will need to work a flexible schedule, including Thursday evenings and most weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience developing or presenting programs in a museum, park, community center or informal education environment
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Prior work with or interest in reaching communities underrepresented in science and museum settings
- Self-starter with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple activities under tight deadlines
- Experience using social media strategies to disseminate personal or professional activities desired
- Conversant in a language other than English highly desired
- Strong writing skills highly desired
- Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team structures
- Willingness to have a flexible schedule. This position may require working nights and weekends.
