Washerwoman's Cove, 1856

The main feature in the foreground is Washerwoman's Cove. From the 
Spanish Mission period on, they actually did wash their clothes in the
lagoon. Then beyond that, you have the very sandy shoreline...it's a
marshland, essentially. The only island that you can see off to the
right is called Strawberry Island. It would appear and disappear with
the tide.
