Spirit and Opportunity, the Mars Exploration Rovers, successfully landed on Mars in January 2004! Designed to last 90 Martian days (sols), the two robot geologists have already survived seven times their projected lifespan. Best of all, they’ve beamed back some 70,000 images, many of which include signs that water once flowed on the red planet.

The Exploratorium is the place to be to celebrate the 1st (Martian year) anniversary of the landings and to learn more about the fourth planet from the sun. Join us at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2005 for a live Webcast, the Mars Rover Follow Up. Exploratorium physicist Paul Doherty and NASA scientist Eric Wegryn will show and talk about some of the fascinating images we’ve received from the rovers. They’ll also explain, using hands-on demos, the most exciting science discoveries to come out of this mission. (continued-->)
