Check out the construction at piers 15 and 17 from a different vantage point. This past August we recorded video of the Exploratorium's new home from a boat about 100 yards off the back of the piers. Using a hydrophone we were able to pick up the sounds of underwater marine life as well as the din of construction above the water. Audio gathered from construction locations on site was mixed with the sound of an outdoor exhibit at the Exploratorium's current home at the Palace of Fine Arts, providing a unique view of the ongoing construction.
The news is out! The Exploratorium, located at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco's Marina District since 1969, will be moving in 2013! The new location at Pier 15 is on the Embarcadero, which runs along the city's historic eastern waterfront. With twice the space, the Exploratorium will be able to expand its exhibit experience, both inside and out, and enhance access to new learning opportunities. Our new home will also place the Exploratorium at the heart of the city, with greater visitor access from around the Bay and beyond.
