Rosetta Mission
Comet Mapping (Webcast)
Date: August 15, 2014
Running Time: 00:49:00

Join us as Rosetta moves ever closer to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko’s nucleus. Now less than 200 kilometers from the comet’s nucleus, Rosetta images show the comet’s spin-axis orientation, angular velocity, major landmarks, and other basic characteristics. When Rosetta is within about 25 kilometers of the nucleus, the spacecraft will be inserted in the comet’s orbit and its speed will slow to a few centimeters per second. Once in orbit, the spacecraft will map the nucleus in great detail to identify five potential landing sites for closer observation, an essential step in preparing for a successful landing in November 2014. Watch live @ Explo.tv
Rosetta is a spacecraft en route to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, where it will make the most detailed study of a comet ever attempted.
