The film Between the Folds is a 2009 work by filmmaker Vanessa Gould. Between the Folds chronicles ten artists and scientists who have devoted time to the unlikely medium of modern origami. Vanessa Gould, who has degrees in physics and architecture, explores the expression of mathematics through origami. She became captivated by the art and science of transforming sheets of paper into three-dimensional geometric shapes — and exposed a hidden subculture. The film will screen at the Exploratorium on Saturday, October 18th, at 2pm.

Snow Mirror is the first in a series of pieces that celebrate slowness and black and white, in this piece the image of the viewer is created by the congregation and accumulation of white snow flakes in areas of the image that are brighter. The result is projected on a transparent silk fabric which creates a feeling of the flakes being suspended in space. Artist Daniel Rozin will be featured in the Exploratorium's 2009 exhibition, Reflections.

Reflections: Shaking Time by Daniel Rozin (clip)

Shaking Time Mirror is the forth of the "Time Series" Software Mirrors. This series of software mirrors examines notions of time, scanning, motion and stagnation. In Shaking Time Mirror only areas of movement on the screen are refreshed with current video, the rest of the screen ages and turns into a gray stagnant crust. When a viewer moves in front of the piece the crust flakes of and revels the full colored image of the viewer, which gradually grays back. Artist Daniel Rozin will be featured in the Exploratorium's summer exhibition, Reflections.

NOAA's Okeanos Explorer: Submarine Volcanic Eruption (clip)

In May 2009, the ROV Jason captured these images of violent explosions of the West Mata volcano near Fiji. At almost 4,000 feet underwater, this is the deepest erupting volcano ever witnessed and captured on video. It's also the first time anyone has ever observed the formation of deep-ocean seafloor as it's happening.

Self Centered Mirror is an arrangement of 34 vertical panes of mirror. It has a retro-reflective behavior, this means that anyone standing in front of this mirror will see themselves reflected on all 34 panes, The mirror will also remove anyone else in the space from being reflected.
