The astronauts of Space Shuttle Columbia spent 5 days servicing the Hubble Space Telescope, installing a new camera (Advanced Camera for Survery) and a new cooling system to revitalize NICMOS (the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer). The operations were successful and the new data has resulted in beautiful new pictures of our galaxy. Join us as NASA releases the first images from NICMOS, and we discuss the significance, and beauty, of these pictures with the NICMOS' Lead Scientist, Keith Noll.

Originally part of the Origins project, the Exploratorium's webcast team has a long history of the covering the Hubble Space Telescope and the servicing missions. The Hubble Space Telescope launched in 1990, and in the 18 years since has given us amazing glances at the universe around us. It is one of NASA's longest and most successful missions, and continues to provide the world with incredible images of space.
