The Good 'Scope

The best microscope in the lab is a 40x stereoscope left behind by a previous research group. When there are lots of scientists at the station, competition to use it can get fierce. A magnification of 40x may not sound very powerful, but it can reveal more than you might expect. For example, it allows entomologists like Andrew Polaszek to inspect the contents of speck-like egg cases—practically invisible to the naked eye—in his search for parasitic wasps.
