Experimental Films and Live Music by the Goat Family!

The Goat Family writes and performs original songs destined to become "traditional" in the next hundred years. Their energetic jug band music is played on a wide range of homespun and eclectic instruments, such as spoons, saw, washtub bass, and six-string steel guitar. For their Exploratorium show, filmmaking Family members Rock Ross, Dan Janos, and Thad Povey will also screen some of their handmade movies, such as Thoughtless (Walsh/Ross) and St. Louise (The Scratch Film Junkies).

Saturday, March 15th, at 2pm
Micro-Insect Cinema: Moth & Moon with Paul Clipson and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma in Person

An experimental visual menagerie of insects, arachnids and minute arthropod life, seen through images and sounds of curiosity and contemplation. In the stillness of a pond or forest, a steady record of unknowable activity is repeated in variation, within terrestrial and aquatic environments by a myriad of tiny beings, as silence and sound, darkness and light, surrounds. Paul Clipson works with Super-8 film, capturing lush colors, reflections, and movements of natural landscape, in collaboration with sound artist Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, to create "a journey into nature, via music, sound and image, within the intimate immensity of a daydream."

Paul Clipson works primarily in Super 8mm film, in an improvised manner that seeks to bring to light subconconscious preoccupations and un-thought, unexpected visual elements that reveal themselves during the process of filming. He exhibits his work in collaboration with experimental music and sound artists.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma is a founding member of the band Tarentel and has been releasing long form work using string and wind instruments under his own name for the last few years. His work has been described by Aquarius records as everything from " stretched out and darkly glistening deep resonant tones" to "glowing tongues of distorted flame."
