Adult Mask-Making Class with Dax Tran-Caffee – October 2011

Just in Time for Halloween: Mask-Making Workshop for Adults with Dax
Sunday, October 2, 2011
9:30 am – 12:30 pm

No matter how old we are, getting dressed up for Halloween never goes out of style, especially in a city like San Francisco. That said, buying a costume at the store just isn’t as cool as actually making your own. Just in time for Halloween, the Exploratorium’s Lifelong Learning series presents a mask-making workshop with the ultra-hip Cardboard Institute of Technology artist Dax Tran-Caffee. If you’re 18 or older and interested in creating a dynamic theater mask from cardboard, this workshop is for you! The cost for the workshop is $45 for members and $65 for non-members.

Dax Tran-Caffee is a champion of cardboard, using the material in massive, dramatic creations. He’s renowned for his cardboard constructions, especially the puppets he creates (that regularly appear with the Corpus Callosum). In 2010, he created a 12-foot-tall puppet for the Museum Proper, a performance piece that was unveiled at the SubZERO Festival in San Jose, CA. He’s also worked with the Redmoon Theater in Chicago and was a member of the Blair Thomas & Co. chamber puppet theater in Chicago.
