Explorables: Science You Can Play With
Saturday, April 21, 2012
11 am – 2 pm

Image by Esther Kutnick © ExploratoriumIts child’s play – but for all ages  – at the Exploratorium’s new Explorables station, where activities focus on experimenting with everyday materials, discovery and toy-making. In other words, playing with science!   Explorables is a new take on the popular, 20-year old Physics of Toys program.

Every other month, our new Explorables program brings an amazing mix of volunteer scientists (neuroscientists, engineers, physicists, biotechnologists, geologists), teachers (retired and current), students, and curious adults back to the museum with fresh ideas to staff these new activities.

With a focus on visitors from different cultures, signage for Explorables will be in English, Spanish, and Chinese. And that reflects just a slice of the diversity of our volunteer group, which brings Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi, French, Italian, Greek, German, and even a little Thai and Yiddish to the table. In between months, Explorable volunteers will be busy behind the scenes inventing and improving Explorables activities.
