Science of Baseball - June 2011

Science of Baseball
A Self-Guided Tour at the Exploratorium
Now Through Monday, September 5, 2011

Ever wonder why a curveball curves, or what’s inside of a baseball? Find out at the Exploratorium's Science of Baseball self-guided tour, available at the Exploratorium now through September 5.

In the Science of Baseball tour, you’ll investigate the insides of that iconic leather-covered ball, test your reaction time with a bat, gauge your aim through a pair of prism goggles and more. Science of Baseball is included in the price of admission to the Exploratorium. Pick up a tour map at the entrance when you visit and check out some favorite baseball-related exhibits – which cover topics on the physics to the physiology and psychology of the game. You'll discover why players learn to run on the balls of their feet, what it feels like to soak in the adoration of a crowd, how come a baseball has stitches – as well as why the singer needs to wear earplugs to get through the national anthem. (Sound does tricky things in ballparks.)
