Surgical Tools & Techniques - November 12, 2011

Surgical Tools & Techniques – Demonstrations and Hands-on Activities
with the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN)
Exploratorium’s Skylight Area
10am – 4pm Saturday, November 12, 2011

Forget those operating room dramas on TV and come to the Exploratorium to get the true scoop on surgery from members of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN)!

On Saturday, November 12,   from 10 am to 4 pm, the Exploratorium’s Skylight area will become an impromptu operating room!  Featuring demonstrations and hands-on activities, this event will educate Exploratorium visitors on the lifesaving tools and techniques used by surgeons and hospital technicians.  Learn how a wound is stitched, the way tissue is carefully cut – and not always with a scalpel. Come perform a “seedectomy," using real instruments to remove slippery gummi bears and worms from a pumpkin!  We'll have information in English, Spanish and Cantonese. This event is for all ages, and is included with admission to the Exploratorium.
