The Western YouthAlive! Regional Network (WEYA!)

Youth Achievement through Learning Involvement and
Employment Opportunities Initiative

WEYA! (The Western YouthAlive! Regional Network) has been formed to provide a communication network for youth program directors, educators, and managers who reside in the Western states. The network is a resource for museum staff devising programs and activities for youth in and outside of the museum community. A listserv is available to network members. At the present time, there is a cadre of eleven museums that comprise the network.

By sharing work among professionals in the field and developing cross-institutional museum collaborations WEYA! goals include:

  • Providing opportunities where professionals can develop management skills and program planning skills
  • Increasing sensitivity and diversity awareness that attract diverse populations to our network and programs
  • Creating opportunities for youth leadership development through network activities, youth summits and youth presentations at network meetings
  • Developing leadership opportunities within the network to foster long-term network function and ability to serve the Western Region
