Beginning Teacher Program Application—Fall 2014

Science Content Workshops
(2 per semester, required)
Enhance your knowledge of science while learning how to bring the Exploratorium’s hands-on philosophy of teaching into your classroom.
Science Pedagogy Workshops
(2 per semester, required)
Led by experienced science teachers and Exploratorium staff, these workshops focus on key pedagogical issues related to teaching, learning, and classroom management.
Classroom Coaching
(2 visits per semester, required)
Receive in-class support from Exploratorium staff and exemplary veteran teachers.
Exploratorium Summer Institute
(3 weeks, required)
Explore both science and pedagogy in the Exploratorium Summer Institute.
Mentor-Novice Support Groups
(2 per semester, required)
Share classroom challenges and successes with experienced veteran teachers, Exploratorium staff, and fellow new science teachers.
Two years of support from experienced teachers and Exploratorium staff In addition to the benefits listed above, you will receive stipends for all workshops and institutes you attend. Continuing education credits are also available.

Participation in these programs does not affect your status in the Exploratorium’s Beginning Teacher Program.
Please read the following very carefully: I understand that if accepted into this two-year program, I will be required to participate in the following program elements: (1) one full-day Saturday Orientation Meeting (August, 23, 2014, 9:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m.), (2) two Saturday workshops (focusing on science content) each semester, (3) two Saturday pedagogy workshops (focusing on teaching strategies) each semester, (4) two Mentor/Novice group meetings each semester, (5) two classroom visits from an Exploratorium coach each semester, (6) a three-week Summer Institute at the Exploratorium (summer 2015). I will receive a stipend for my participation for these required program elements (except the classroom visits). If I’m unable to meet these minimum requirements, I understand that I may be removed from the program.
