SATURDAY JULY 3

Take it Apart: Transportation
12 noon-3 p.m.
Don your mechanic's overalls and grab a wrench! Visitors aged 6 and up will be encouraged to take apart and unravel the parts that comprise cars, bikes, wheelchairs, and motorcycles. Expert mechanics, as well as the Bike Hut and Whirlwind Wheelchair International at SFSU, will show us how. Come prepared to get greasy!

Take It Apart weekends encourage visitors to adopt a do-it-yourself attitude, get handy with tools, and probe deeper into the inner workings of everyday objects.

Car Art—Off and On
2 p.m.
Fresh Kill (1971, 12 min.), by Gordon Matta-Clark, follows the final drive and demise of Matta-Clark's trusty old red truck.
Driving the Dream (1998, 29 min.), by Harrod Blank, takes us into the fascinating world of art cars and profiles the amazing folks who create them. This film focuses on the Hamburger Harley, the Grass Bus, and the Camera Van.
The Secret Life of Machines: The Car (1991, 30 min.), by Tim Hunkin, is a highly entertaining and informative program that examines the inner workings of the automobile.
A looping installation in the Skylight area, adjacent to the Take It Apart: Transportation event.
SATURDAY JULY 3
Windmill and Whirligig Garden
12 noon-4 p.m.
Also on Sun 8/1

Create a working windmill to power a kinetic art sculpture—and set it in motion! Using building pieces, connectors, and K'Nex®, design and decorate your own miniature windmill. You choose the speed, direction, and scale of your windmill. Part play, part science, your finished piece will join others in creating a dynamic Windmill and Whirligig Garden powered by wind! For ages 6 and up.
Wind Puppets and Whirligig Gardens 2 p.m.
Possum Trot, The Life and Work of Calvin Black (1977, 29 min.), directed by Allie Light and Irving Saraf, profiles the life of Calvin Black and his wife Ruby. For the last twenty years of his life, Calvin and Ruby lived in an isolated shack in the Mojave Desert, where he created over eighty nearly life-size performing dolls.
