Fort Point and the Golden Gate Bridge
A National Historic Site, Fort Point was constructed by the U.S. Army in the mid-1800s to protect the entrance of the Bay. In the 1930s, the fort was used as a base of operations for the construction of the majestic Golden Gate Bridge, which now spans the Bay between San Francisco and Marin.
