CONSERVATION OF ANGULAR MOMENTUM
The amount of "spin" an object has always remains constant. The spin is measured by the mass, its velocity, and its position from the axis of rotation. The product of these three quantities (mvr) must remain constant. For instance, if the mass moves toward the axis of rotation (r becomes smaller) something else must become larger to compensate (v) with the result that the object spins faster.
