Colleen is the alias of French musician Cécile Schott. Over the course of five albums, her musical repertoire has featured obscure Baroque instruments like the viola de gamba, as well as modified music boxes and wind chimes.
Colleen delights in taking acoustic instruments out of their usual context and pushing the boundaries of their playability. On her latest release, Captain of None, she “tried to open the gates in the way she played, sang, and wrote lyrics for the album, and set out to explore how effects like delay and echo could go from the ‘cosmetic sound varnish’ role they usually play to a fully dynamic, constructive, song-shaping role.”
