In this gem from 1990, we get a brief peek into the flourishing mind of German-born composer/sculptor Trimpin, a MacArthur “genius” award winner and the subject of a recent feature documentary. He chronicles his unique adventures through sound, culture, and music making; takes audience questions; and stages modified versions of his musical installations before the live audience. Highlights include how he finds and follows the threads of his creative inspiration; the music he listens to (actually he doesn’t); and colorful descriptions of some of his technical feats. He also makes a proclamation that he will never commercially record and release music. This won't surprise people who are familiar with his indifference to hype--though his reasoning is not what you might expect. Enjoy!
