UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital
Transforming a hospital into a place to play, learn, and explore.
UCSF approached the Exploratorium to integrate hands-on exhibits into its new Benioff Children’s Hospital. Our common goal was to provide positive, transformative moments of wonder to young patients and their families during their treatment—to engage their senses and minds, and empower them to discover and explore, at a time of uncertainty and stress.
Working closely with UCSF staff to understand the special requirements of a hospital setting, Global Collaborations custom-designed and fabricated 16 interactive exhibits, including full-scale versions and mobile bedside carts. To enhance the project’s long-term impact, the Exploratorium also provided a comprehensive program of professional development for teachers at the hospital’s fully accredited public school.
