Why Woleai? | Total Solar Eclipse Expedition
The Exploratorium sent a production crew thousands of miles by plane and boat to Woleai, Micronesia, to broadcast a solar eclipse live to the world. Many factors went into choosing a destination for the broadcast, including weather and the location of solid land for setting up telescopes. Executive Producer Robyn Higdon looked along the eclipse's path of totality, starting in Indonesia and sweeping across the Pacific Ocean—and the Woleai Atoll in Micronesia was the perfect choice.
