4th NGSS STEM Conference

Making Science Count: Integrating Math into an NGSS Classroom

Saturday, January 28, 2017
Exploratorium, Pier 15

This was a full-day conference featuring hands-on math workshops plus engaging activities used in classrooms to meet the new standards.

Math is the language of science. By analyzing and interpreting data—and using mathematical and computational thinking—students experience how math is a tool that helps to explain the world around us.

We covered engaging, hands-on ways to integrate math Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) into middle- or high-school classrooms. The Exploratorium’s Teacher Institute's full-day conference featured:

  • a plenary session
  • three hands-on workshops
  • activities teachers can use in classrooms to engage students and meet the new standards

Lunch was included, and participants left with handouts of the activities covered in all of the sessions. One semester unit of Continuing Education credit was also available for an additional fee.
