SAN FRANCISCO (September 22, 2023) – Calling all explorers! The Exploratorium invites families, friends, and science enthusiasts of all ages to an unforgettable day of exploration and play at Wonder Funday 2023. Taking place on Sunday, October 1, 2023, this annual event is not just a fun-filled day, but also a vital fundraiser for science education.
Wonder Funday is the ultimate family playdate and educational fundraiser rolled into one spectacular event. Families are invited to spend a captivating Sunday afternoon at the Exploratorium's iconic Pier 15 location, where they can immerse themselves in hands-on science exhibits, engage in special programs, and enjoy both indoor and outdoor galleries.
Your family’s participation in Wonder Funday supports free field trips and transportation for the Bay Area’s under-resourced Title I schools. In school year 2023–2024, more than 50,000 kids will visit the Exploratorium on free field trips. Our goal? Equitable access for all.
“A field trip to the Exploratorium has the potential to change a young person’s whole attitude toward science,” explains event co-chair Aurelie MacDonald, “and that opportunity shouldn’t be limited to only those kids whose schools can fund the trip. Many of the people who can benefit most from the experience need community support to make it a reality.”
Fellow co-chair Sydney McDowell agrees, “Wonder Funday is a chance to show up for future generations and ensure that every Bay Area student has access to the Exploratorium.”

VIP Reception (11:00 a.m.)
Kicking off the day is the VIP Reception, a special opportunity for early access to the event. Attendees can enjoy exclusive experiences, mingle with fellow supporters, and get a sneak peek behind the scenes of the Exploratorium.
Event (2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., families and friends are invited to immerse themselves in an array of engaging exhibits, special programs, and exciting activities. With both indoor and outdoor galleries to explore, Wonder Funday promises an afternoon of hands-on science, delightful entertainment, and endless wonder.
