Lookmobile: San Mateo County Libraries
San Mateo County residents who show up at their local libraries may catch the Lookmobile in residence. SPS created the mobile learning center for the San Mateo County Library system to help connect their libraries and make better use of their outside spaces. When set up at a site, the Lookmobile unfolds into an activity zone that gives library patrons tools to look more closely at the region where they live, making the libraries’ outdoor spaces more welcoming and lively.
The interactive experiences include traditional viewing instruments--the pinhole camera and camera obscura--and a perspective drawing device. A variety of maps present different ways to look at the county, and visitors are able to draw and post their own maps. Another exhibit features the fog that rolls through San Mateo County’s hilly terrain. Visitors can play with a thick mist, creating hills and valleys out of beanbag chairs and watching how the fog flows around the terrain.
