Science of Cocktails 2019 Recipes

Base Spirit: Gin

GT's Love Potion #9

Sponsor: GT's Kombucha

Ingredients:
2 oz. gin
2 oz. GT's Gingerade Kombucha
2 oz. GT's Pure Love Kombucha
Blood orange wheel
Rosemary sprig

Instructions:
Combine gin and kombuchas. Serve in a rocks glass, garnished with the blood orange and rosemary.

Wine Country Collins

Sponsor: Graton Distillery Co.

Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Benham’s Gin
0.5 oz. lemon juice
0.5 oz. Domaine Santé Bored-O Rouge
Seltzer water

Instructions:
Combine first three ingredients. Serve in a Collins glass and top with seltzer water.

Age of Enlightenment

Sponsor: Sipsmith Gin

Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Cocchi Americano
1.5 oz. Dolin Extra Dry
8 shakes orange bitters
2 oz. water
4 oz. Sipsmith® V.J.O.P.
Absinthe in spray bottle
Lemon olive oil

Instructions:
Combine first four ingredients and freeze in a block ice tray. Smash the ice block in a mixing glass with a muddler. Heat the Sipsmith V.J.O.P. until steaming, pour it over the smashed ice, and stir and melt down. Pour liquid into two iced martini glasses. Spray with absinthe and add a few drops of lemon olive oil on top.

Gibson by the Sea

Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Sea Gin
0.25 oz. sochu
0.25 oz. manzanilla sherry
0.25 oz. yuzu syrup
Rice vinegar–pickled watermelon radish

Instructions:
Stir together first three ingredients, then strain into a rocks glass over one 2-inch-square ice cube. Garnish with pickled watermelon radish.

Base Spirit: Rum

The Lunar Landing

Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Plantation 5-year rum (or substitute another aged, dark rum)
0.5 oz. Cointreau
0.75 oz. fresh lime juice
0.25 oz. simple syrup
Sparkling wine

Instructions:
Combine first four ingredients and pour into a martini glass. Float sparkling wine on top, then sprinkle with edible gold.

Base Spirit: Vodka

Purple Gardens

Sponsor: Humboldt Distillery

Ingredients:
30 mL Humboldt’s Finest Hemp Infused Vodka
15 mL Humboldt Organic Vodka
50 mL cucumber-infused water
30 mL red cabbage–infused simple syrup
3 fresh basil leaves
20 mL lime juice
(Metric conversion: 30 mL = 1 oz.)

Instructions:
Muddle the basil leaves with all the ingredients except the lime juice, and add ice. Slowly top with the lime juice and enjoy the changing colors, before enjoying the cocktail itself.

Base Spirit: Bourbon

The Salted Lands of Milk and Honey #1 & 2

Sponsor: Distillery No. 209 & Straight Edge Bourbon

Ingredients:
1.5 oz. No. 209 Bourbon or Straight Edge Bourbon
1 oz. milk punch
0.5 oz. lemon juice
0.5 oz. light or dark corn syrup, preferably homemade
Soda

Instructions:
Combine first four ingredients and serve in a Collins glass. Use light corn syrup for a #1, dark corn syrup for a #2. Add soda to fill.

In Old Elk Fashion

Sponsor: Old Elk Distillery

Ingredients:
2 oz. Old Elk Bourbon
Half a Demerara sugar cube
2 dashes orange bitters
Slice of orange (peeled)
1 Luxardo Cherry

Instructions:
Drop the half sugar cube into an old-fashioned glass, add a few drops of water and the two dashes of orange bitters, and muddle. Add the Luxardo cherry and orange slice and muddle into a paste. Add bourbon and ice or ice sphere, then stir to combine.

Base Spirit: Brandy

San Francisco Sour

Sponsor: Frisco Brandy

Ingredients:
2 oz. Frisco Brandy
0.5 oz. fresh lime juice
0.5 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 oz. simple syrup
Pinot noir

Instructions:
Mix the first three ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and pour into a coupe glass. Slowly pour the wine over a spoon to add the float. For variations, you can add egg white or serve on the rocks (but not both).
