Join us May 25, 2016, for the exclusive opening reception for Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen. Be among the first guests to experience these enormous, kinetic sculptures that mesmerize with their eerily lifelike motion. Constructed largely of PVC tubing, Jansen’s creations walk a wandering, wind-blown line between art and engineering, mechanics and biology.

On tour for the first time in North America, the exhibition is illuminated by artist sketches, immersive video, live demonstrations, and the lyrical photography of Lena Herzog, who spent more than seven years documenting the strandbeests’ evolution.

Meet artists Theo Jansen and Lena Herzog, see the beests in motion, and enjoy “beest-themed” bites and beverages.
