Carmelo Presicce
Carmelo loves to tinker with physical and computational materials, preferably at the same time. He is currently a PhD student with the Lifelong Kindergarten group at MIT Media Lab, where he is exploring computational tinkering with Scratch, and supporting educators in learning creative learning.
With the Tinkering Studio he collaborates on the design of technologies and activities that promote a playful, experimental, iterative style of engagement in computational creation, connecting Scratch to the physical world. For example, he contributed to the design of technologies like Digital LightPlay, that allows children to explore light, shadow, motion, and computation, by creating shadow vignettes and interactive art. Other shared explorations included building Programmable Sound Machines, experimenting with Scratch Video Sensing, and developing activities that extend the creative possibilities of Scratch beyond the computer screen.
He also supports educators from all around the world by designing and facilitating Learning Creative Learning, a free online course and community for everyone interested in ideas, resources, and strategies for supporting creative learning.
